Update of Town Projects
It's been a very active year here in Kirklin! We wanted to clear up some questions and offer a little update on our projects. The main questions we have been getting are about the bump-outs along Main Street at the stop light. This is an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) project. Neither Kirklin Main Street nor the Town of Kirklin are working on, or have control over this project. It is our understanding that INDOT ran into some design issues once the project was underway and had to redesign parts of the project. The weather has not cooperated for them to come back to continue work on the project. This INDOT project will include the new bump-outs, handicapped ramps and new stop lights.
The last phase of the water project has reached substantial completion with only minor items left to be finished up. It is our hope that you are seeing an improvement to your quality of water. The iron content in the water leaving the new water plant is near zero! Town employees have flushed fire hydrants one time before inclement weather arrived and hopefully flushed much of the old water from the system.
A Streetscape Project will begin in early spring using a grant from the Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs as well as matching funds raised through partnerships with local & county government as well as private donations. We have chosen an Engineer for the project so the design work should begin soon. None of the work being done in the downtown area at this time is associated with this project.
The Dollar General Store has made great progress and should be opening in mid-January.
Please do not hesitate to call Kirklin Town Hall with any questions you may have at 765-279-8786.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
